When appropriate, we use a micro laser scanner called the "Diagnodent".
You have probably been to the dentist and he or she has noticed a possible defect on a tooth and said that "we will watch that."
Well, this technology takes the "watch" to a whole new level!
When we see a suspicious area on a tooth, we can scan it with this device and record the level of decalcification. Then, when you come back in 6 to 12 months, we can re-scan it. If decalcification has increased significantly, then we will know that it is time to provide a conservative restoration for you.
This technology does have its limits. It will give "false positives" near dental sealants and silver fillings, so we use this device only in situations in which we are confident in its ability to accurately measure your teeth.
