BriteSmile Technology for Whitening Your Teeth . . .

Introduction How Technology Safe Guarantee Frequently Asked Questions

goldbullet.gif (1639 bytes)Introduction:

Whiter teeth, in about an hour and a half. It's that simple. Years of yellowing as well as harsh staining from coffee, cigarettes, and red wine are almost magically erased in the time it takes to get a haircut, a manicure or lunch. In fact, we have clinical studies which prove that the BriteSmile whitening treatment resulted in an average improvement of 8+ shades whiter!

BriteSmile offers our patients the safety and science of a dentist's office with all the comforts of a spa. First you'll have a complimentary consultation to answer all your questions. If you are interested in moving forward with the treatment, we will examine your teeth and gums to ensure that they're healthy for whitening at that time. Then, while you relax, watch TV, listen to headphones, or even nap, our proprietary gel and safe, high-intensity LED blue light treatment work to whiten teeth to their optimal brightness.

What does the whole procedure look like?

1. Your gums and mouth are protected with isolation materials and a "Before" picture is taken.

2. The BriteSmile whitening gel is professionally applied and activated by the light source.

3. After three 20-minute applications over a one-hour period, your whitening is completed and your "After" picture is taken.

4. You rinse. You smile. Wow!

goldbullet.gif (1639 bytes)How it Works:

The BriteSmile Professional Teeth Whitening treatment consists of a gentle hydrogen-peroxide whitening gel activated by a special LED (Light Emitting Diode) light source* The gel and light were both developed by BrightSmile, Inc.  Unlike traditional bleaching methods, with BriteSmile there's no fuss or mess and no gels or trays to take home. All you have to do is sit back and relax while the BriteSmile dental professionals do the rest.

* By the way, the patent-pending BriteSmile light is not UV, heat or laser-activated. It is a gentle, blue light that compliments our whitening gel to effectively whiten and brighten your teeth in just about an hour.

goldbullet.gif (1639 bytes)New Technology:

The science behind BriteSmile is the secret to its success. The BriteSmile LED light technology, combined with a proprietary new, wavelength-specific gentle bleaching gel, has created a revolutionary method (click here and a new browser window will open) of teeth whitening which quickly, safely and effectively whitens all teeth at once. How effective is this? See the product comparisons.(click here and a new browser window will open)

The BriteSmile technology was developed by a team led by Dr. John Warner, a former NASA scientist and a member of the Hubble Space Telescope development program. To find an in depth look at how Dr. Warner and our team of scientists arrived at the final solution, you can see the whole story (click here and a new browser window will open) under "How BriteSmile Works."

What it all means for you is that this whitening results confirm an average of eight or more shades lighter and even higher for individuals with darker teeth. Years of coffee, cigarettes, red wine and other stains seem to magically disappear. And success is so certain, your satisfaction is guaranteed.

goldbullet.gif (1639 bytes)Safe:

You can feel confident in your decision to have us use BriteSmile technology to whiten your teeth.  Scientific research, both at private institutions as well as universities, has proven that the procedure is safe and sound. Safety studies conducted at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey found conclusively that BriteSmile whitening resulted in no structural change in teeth; no adverse impacts on fillings and no softening of tooth enamel. And these study results were confirmed by senior researchers at New York University. See in-depth safety studies (click here and a new browser window will open) under "How BriteSmile Works" on BriteSmile's website.

The pH balanced proprietary gel is not harmful to the gums and because it is not ingested, the gel does not carry many other risks or side-effects of other options in the marketplace.

Unlike the "do-it-yourself" at-home whitening options, Dr. Hart and his staff perform every aspect of the BriteSmile process. Before moving forward with the procedure, we examine your mouth and gums to ensure they are healthy. Additionally, BriteSmile's whitening gel has a very small amount of hydrogen peroxide gel which further ensures the safety of your teeth and gums.

goldbullet.gif (1639 bytes)FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

How white will my teeth get?

In clinical studies, BriteSmile has been able to achieve an average 9 shades whiter. Your results will vary depending on the darkness of your teeth and your circumstances. Ultimately the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness. During the consultation, Dr. Hart will go over what you personally can expect for your individual situation.

How long does it last?

Your teeth are as individual and unique as you are and, therefore, your actual results may vary. However, in general, BriteSmile whitening results can last up to two years assuming good hygiene and reasonable exposure to staining foods or beverages.

Does it work on caps, veneers or bonds?

The BriteSmile treatment has been successful at removing stains from caps, veneers or bonded teeth. However, a whitening procedure in general cannot change the color of the caps, veneers or bonds. During your consultation, Dr. Hart will discuss your particular situation.

Is it safe?

Yes. The primary ingredient is hydrogen peroxide which has been safely used in teeth whitening for more than 100 years and is recognized as an effective ingredient by the dental community. It has also been tested and found safe by university researchers. Independent safety studies conducted by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and reviewed by researchers at New York University, found conclusively that the BriteSmile treatment resulted in no structural change in teeth, no adverse impact on fillings, and no softening in tooth enamel.

Additionally, only licensed dentists and properly trained dental professionals perform this procedure which further ensures your safety.

Will it hurt?

The process is normally painless. A very small percentage of people may experience a minor dull ache following the procedure. Taking an analgesic almost always resolves the feeling. It's best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

Is this procedure for everyone?

Virtually everyone wanting to brighten their teeth can benefit from the procedure including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains.

How much does it cost?

The basic procedure is $600.  We also offer options that include additional take-home products.  Also, the BriteSmile company often offers specials.  Call ( or email ) our office, and we will gladly let you know how to take advantage of these discounts.

Is it covered by insurance?

Like other cosmetic procedures, it is rarely covered by insurance companies.
